I work alongside my best friend and the business she started, Manic Pixie Thrift. We find secondhand clothing for people that fits them and their body. We sell online, at markets, and at an in person vintage store downtown called Show Pony.
Since joining MP about 3 years ago, I’ve been exposed to so many different things – people, lessons, experiences. However, I realized I was missing a connection to my creative side. Since going back to school last spring, I have been working with small businesses I’ve meet through Manic Pixie. I’ve done brand identity packages for people, but in a bit of a different way than I was taught at school. Since the businesses aren’t as developed or financially stable compared to a corporate brand. For me, this means less risk and more reward. I get to actually connect with real people, and hopefully provide them a way to expand their success, or maintain their flow. It’s also a low pressure way for me to push myself with my solutions, and learn how to work with a client.
My current goal is to continue to work with small businesses! If I can keep up a flow of clients for the next few years, I’ll try to stick with that. However, I can see myself going abroad to work at a design firm in either Barcelona or Copenhagen, undecided. I would love to experience design in another culture, and extend my network of connections overseas.
